FAQ
Frequently Asked
What is Swedish Massage?
Swedish massage is a gentle, relaxing therapy using long, gliding strokes, kneading, and circular movements, designed to improve circulation, ease tension, uplift mood and enhance relaxation. Learn more about Moon Massage Therapy’s massage approach here.
What is Reiki?
Reiki is the Japanese word for “universal life energy.” It is an energetic healing practice where the practitioner holds space for the client by helping them connect with their inherent healing energy. Reiki practicioners believe that there is a vital energy force that flows through the body and between the practitioner and the client, and that blocked energy paths can cause illness, weakness, or pain. Reiki therapy uses gentle touch and energy manipulation to clear these blockages and promote balance, relaxation, and healing in the recipient’s body, mind, and spirit.
What can I expect during my first massage?
A preliminary assesment will be conducted, which entails discussing medical history, as well as your needs and goals. There will be some paperwork to fill out such as a liability waiver, HIPAA compliance, and a cancellation policy acknowledgement. In-studio sessions are conducted in a private room. Feel free to ask any questions during the assessment, and indicate locations on the body that need attention or that you would prefer to avoid.
Do I have to be nude?
No. You can undress to the level of your comfort and will be conservatively draped under a sheet the entire time. Only the body part being worked on will be exposed. If you are uncomfortable removing any clothes, you can still receive a massage, but some techniques will be inaccessible. Perhaps consider a chair massage. Reiki sessions can be entirely clothed if that is your preference.
Will the massage hurt?
Generally speaking, massage therapy should not hurt. MMT doesn’t believe deep pressure is always necessary to achieve results. Often, a gentle touch is enough to encourage relaxation. However, if you prefer deep pressure, you can expect to feel some discomfort during the session and some soreness the following day(s). Be sure to drink a lot of water after your massage, which can help reduce the possibility of soreness.
Can I get a massage if I have a disability or chronic health condition?
Yes, we can develop a care plan together that accommodates your needs.
Can I get a massage if I have ___ body type?
Yes, massage is for every body!
I have body acne. Can I still receive massage?
Yes. Unless you have open wounds or a contagious infection, it’s okay to receive massage.
I am very hairy. Can I still receive massage?
Yes, body hair is not an impediment to massage.
How frequently should I receive a massage?
You can receive massage as frequently as you’d like. At minimum, a monthly massage is recommended to maintain optimum health. However, if we’re addressing a specific muscular imbalance or issue, more frequent sessions may be needed initially.

Can I hire you for an event?
Yes! Interested in hiring a massage therapist for your next corporate event? Looking to offer chair massages for employee appreciation? Have a festival coming up? Use the contact form to discuss options and booking.
Can I get a massage if I am sick?
No. It is ill advised to receive a massage while sick with cold or flu. If you have a fever, a known infection, or have experienced vomiting or diarrhea within 24 hours prior to your appointment time, please cancel your session. Massage can help strengthen the immune system by reducing stress and clearing lymph. However, if one is already sick, massage can overload the immune system and increase fever. Out of respect for your massage therapist and your own health, please do not arrive for an appointment while contagious.
What is your COVID-19 policy?
Your massage therapist will wear a mask while massaging both in the office or while working on site. It is recommended that you do the same. If you become sick, please cancel your session and allow 10 days once symptoms have ceased to reschedule.
What is your cancellation policy?
MMT asks that you provide a 24 hour notice of any schedule changes or cancellations. Please understand that if you cancel or miss your appointment without providing a 24 hour notice, the spot is often unable to be filled. This is an inconvenience to the therapist and also means that other clients miss the chance to receive service. For this reason, you will be charged 100% of the service fee for missed appointments or late cancellations.
It is understandable that emergencies can arise and illnesses do occur at inopportune times. Late cancellation due to emergency, illness, or inclement weather will generally not result in any missed session charges, but this is determined on a case-by-case basis.
